THE RULES

The International Award UCLG - Mexico City - Culture 21 recognises cities and individuals who have excelled in the promotion of cultural rights for local sustainable development.

Category “City / Local or Regional Government”

In the category "City/Local or Regional Government", candidacies have been received using the form available on the side, and sent by email to cultureaward (at) uclg.org.

The process was divided into two phases:

PHASE 1. Cities, local and regional governments were invited to send the application form partially completed (according to the fields highlighted in the form) before 16 Fabruary 2024

PHASE 2. Finalist cities, local and regional governments were invited to send their full candidacy (that is, the application form fully completed: with all fields) before 3 April 2024.

 

The Jury held its final meeting on 11 June 2024. In the category "City, Local or regional government", the Jury decided to award Gwanak-Gu (Republic of Korea) with the project "Capital of Youth Culture" and La Paz (Bolivia), with the project "Traditional Medicine Information and Guidance Centres - Qullañ Uta". Special mentions were attributed to Bilbao, Brazzaville, Esch-sur-Alzette, Novi Sad, Ramallah and Xi'an.

The Award Ceremony was organised on 25 July 2024 in Mexico City.

Category “Individual”

The deadline for nominations was 3 April 2024.

For the category "Individual", spontaneous nominations were submitted only to the e-mail address cultureaward (at) uclg.org. The spontaneous nomination consist of one document, according to the proposed form. Once a nomination was received, the organisers of the Award sent a message by email acknowledging the receipt.

Nominations will not be published.

 

The Jury held its final meeting on 11 June 2024. The Jury decided to award Milena Dragićević Šešić and Alfons Martinell Sempere.

The Award Ceremony was celebrated on 25 July 2024 in Mexico City.
